<html><head></head><body><div><div><div><div><br></div>John 20;2-10<div><br></div><div><b>2. &nbsp;So she ran, and went to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved, and said to them, “They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid him.”</b></div><div><b>3. &nbsp;Peter then came out with the other disciple, and they went toward the tomb.</b></div><div><b>4. &nbsp;They both ran, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first;</b></div><div><b>5. and stooped to look in, he saw the linen cloths lying there, but he did not go in.</b></div><div><b>6. &nbsp;Then Simon Peter came, following him, and went into the tomb; he saw the linen cloths lying,</b></div><div><b>7. &nbsp;and the napkin, which had been on his head, not lying with the linen cloths but rolled up in a place by itself.</b></div><div><b>8. &nbsp;Then the&nbsp;other disciple, who reached the tomb first, also went in, and saw and believed;</b></div><div><b>9. &nbsp;for as yet they did not know the scripture, that he must rise from the dead.</b></div><div><b>10. &nbsp;Then the disciples went back to their homes.</b></div><div><b><br></b></div><div>We can be ‘hearers’ of the Word, but remain ignorant, without understanding. &nbsp;Perception is an odd progressive thing…</div><div>How confused&nbsp;Simon Peter and John must have been. &nbsp;<i>“They saw and believed” </i><u>what???</u></div><div><br></div><div>The disciples&nbsp;believed Mary was correct in telling them,&nbsp;<i>“‘They’ have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where ‘they’ have laid him.” &nbsp;</i>Who are the <i>“they” </i>Mary is referring to? &nbsp;Where could the body be?<i></i></div><div><br></div><div>Neither she nor the disciples knew&nbsp;who the <i>‘they’ were</i>, but there <u>must</u>&nbsp;be a <i>‘they’…</i>how else could the body of their Lord be missing? &nbsp;Dunderheads! &nbsp;The linens were lying there…the head piece rolled up neatly,&nbsp;who would steal a naked corpse!?! &nbsp;Anyone handling a dead body would welcome the shroud, besides, it was very valuable. &nbsp;What nefarious&nbsp;robbers in their&nbsp;right minds&nbsp;would leave it and the other linens behind?</div><div><br></div><div>When this text says, <i>“For as yet, they did not know the scripture, that he must rise from the dead.”&nbsp;</i></div><div>(v. 9), it means, they did not yet believe and understand the words of Christ concerning his own resurrection.</div><div><br></div><div>This same condition plagues most Christians. &nbsp;We, like the disciples, hear the Words of our Lord, but we do not know them as actual truth in reality. &nbsp;They have yet to ‘sink in’. &nbsp;That is why the Collect for the Word pleads with God to enlighten our minds with understanding and full comprehension. &nbsp;It has the phrase, <i>“…hear them, read, mark, learn, and <u>inwardly digest</u>&nbsp;them.”</i>&nbsp; Real clear perception of the workings and Word&nbsp;of God in Christ in us is still ‘in process’.</div><div><br></div><div>What Word of God for example? &nbsp;<i>“To them </i>(us) <i>God chose to make known how great among the Gentiles are the riches of the glory of this mystery, which is <u>Christ in you,</u>&nbsp;the hope of glory.”</i></div><div>(Colossians 1;27).
