<html><head></head><body><div><div><div><div><br></div>Acts 10;1-8<div><br></div><div><b>1. &nbsp;At Caesarea there was a man named Cornelius, a centurion of what was known as the Italian Cohort,</b></div><div><b>2. &nbsp;a devout man who feared the God with all his household, gave alms liberally to the people, and prayed constantly to God.</b></div><div><b>3. &nbsp;About the ninth hour of the day he saw clearly in&nbsp;a vision an angel of God coming in and saying to him, “Cornelius.”</b></div><div><b>4. &nbsp;And he stared at him in terror and said, “What is it, Lord?” &nbsp;And he said to him, “Your prayers and your alms have ascended as a memorial before God.</b></div><div><b>5. &nbsp;And now send men to Joppa, and bring one Simon who is called Peter;</b></div><div><b>6. &nbsp;He is lodging with Simon, a tanner, whose house in by the seaside.”</b></div><div><b>7. &nbsp;When the angel who spoke to him had departed, he called two of his servants and a devout soldier from among those that waited on him,</b></div><div><b>8. &nbsp;and having related everything to them, he sent them to Joppa.</b></div><div><b><br></b></div><div>When this text says, <i>“gave alms liberally to </i><u>the people</u><u>”</u><span>&nbsp;it is identifying Cornelius as a Gentile.</span></div><div>The Jews considered themselves as <i>“the people” </i>of Abraham, Issac, and Israel (Jacob). &nbsp;The chosen people of God.&nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div>He was a <i>“devout”</i>&nbsp;believer in the God of the Jews. &nbsp;Most likely Cornelius already knew a great deal about the history of the Jews as well as the prophecies concerning the&nbsp;hope of the promised Messiah.</div><div><br></div><div>His belief in the God of the Jews inspired his generosity and his prayers. &nbsp;He was a spiritual leader in his own household, he taught his family and servants&nbsp;of the God of Israel.</div><div><br></div><div>It is of little wonder that God chose Cornelius to be&nbsp;the first Gentile convert to hear the Gospel of Christ as the long promised Messiah. &nbsp;Further, as a centurion with connections to Rome, his future witness would travel quickly amongst people of all classes.</div><div><br></div><div>Note: Brave, experienced,&nbsp;men of authority and war, are terrified by a single angel of God. &nbsp;Think of the appearance of Jesus coming in the clouds with all his&nbsp;angels and what terror will come upon all unbelievers. &nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div>Prayer: &nbsp;Merciful Father, inspire our hearts to faithful prayer, generosity, and teaching of our households. &nbsp;Bless us to behold by faith the glory of Jesus through your Word&nbsp;so that when he comes we may not fear. &nbsp;<span>In Jesus we pray, Amen.</span></div><div><br></div><div>Love,</div><div>Dad/Baba/Eric</div><div>Grandpa Pickle Pastor</div><div>“A chapter a day, every day, progressively, be transformed, ‘soak’ in the living Word.”</div><div><br><br><div><a href="https://mail.onelink.me/107872968?pid=nativeplacement&amp;c=Global_Acquisition_YMktg_315_Internal_EmailSignature&amp;af_sub1=Acquisition&amp;af_sub2=Global_YMktg&amp;af_sub3=&amp;af_sub4=100000604&amp;af_sub5=EmailSignature__Static_" rel="nofollow" target="_blank"></a><br></div></div></div></div></div></body></html>

When this text says, “gave alms liberally to the people” it is identifying Cornelius as a Gentile.The Jews considered themselves as “the people” of Abraham, Issac, and Israel (Jacob).  The chosen people of God. 
He was a “devout” believer in the God of the Jews.  Most likely Cornelius already knew a great deal about the history of the Jews as well as the prophecies concerning the hope of the promised Messiah.
