<html><head></head><body><div><div><div><div><br></div><div>Mark 8;38 and 9;1</div><div><br></div><div>38. &nbsp;For whoever is ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him will the Son of man be ashamed, when he comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.</div><div><b>1. &nbsp;And he said to them, “Truly, I say to you, there are some standing here who will not taste death before they see the kingdom of God come with power.”</b></div><div><b><br></b></div><div>Verse 9;1 must be connected to verse 8;38, they belong together, even though they have been separated in our Bibles, (with v.38 ending chapter 8, and v.1 beginning chapter 9.) &nbsp;They belong together.</div><div><br></div><div>V.38 is essential for us to understand what <i>“taste death” </i>means.</div><div><br></div><div>Jesus did <u>not</u>&nbsp;mean that someone hearing Him at that moment,&nbsp;living in an earthly body, would&nbsp;not physically die before He returned <i>“in</i>&nbsp;<i>the glory of the Father with the holy angels.”</i>&nbsp;&nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div>He meant that there were present at the moment, unbelievers who would remain unrepentant, unbaptized,</div><div>&nbsp;and ashamed of Jesus. &nbsp;They would not <i>“taste death” </i>through the working of the Word and Spirit, but would remain unbelieving, <u>until</u>&nbsp;the day of Judgement. &nbsp;<u>Then</u>, they would repent, but it would be too late.</div><div><br></div><div>In repentance, we die to self, we deny self. &nbsp;This is truly what <i>“taste death” </i>means. &nbsp;In repentant faith&nbsp;we are baptized, and become partakers in Christ’s own death to sin on the cross. &nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div>This ‘taste of death’ abides,&nbsp;a sweet&nbsp;taste in the souls of Believers, as Jeremiah says, <i>“Thy Words were found and I ate them; and Thy Words became to me a joy and my delight, for I am called by thy name.”</i></div><div>(Jeremiah 15;16)</div><div><br></div><div>The taste of death (to self,&nbsp;through&nbsp;Baptism into Christ)&nbsp;is delicious to the repentant, believing&nbsp;sinner. &nbsp;It is the flavor of grace, forgiveness, and newness of&nbsp;life. It is the full&nbsp;satisfaction of our, <i>“hunger and thirst for righteousness” </i>(Matthew 5;6)</div><div><br></div><div>Those who are ashamed of Jesus will not know what they missed, until they see Jesus, <i>“come in the glory of his&nbsp;</i><i>&nbsp;Father with the holy angels.” &nbsp;</i><span>Only then will they understand what could have been theirs, true Life in Christ. &nbsp;For them, that realization becomes the <i>“second death” </i>(see, Revelation 2;11, 20;6,&nbsp;20;14, and 21;8</span><span>).</span></div><div><span><br></span></div><div><span>For them who were ashamed of Jesus and His Words, that taste will be eternally bitter in their mouths.</span></div><div><span><br></span></div><div><span>Prayer: &nbsp;Merciful Father, we praise you that Christ has poured out the gift of repentance upon us through the working of the Word and Holy Spirit. &nbsp;(see, Acts 5;31).
