<html><head></head><body><div><div><div><div><br></div>Mark 9;5-8<div><br></div><div><b>5. &nbsp;And Peter said to Jesus, “Master, it is well that we are here; let us make three booths, one for you and one for Moses and one for Elijah.”</b></div><div><b>6. &nbsp;For he did not know what to say, for they were exceedingly afraid.</b></div><div><b>7. &nbsp;And a cloud overshadowed them, and a voice came out of the cloud, “This is my beloved Son, listen to him.”</b></div><div><b>8. &nbsp;And suddenly looking around they no longer saw any one with them but Jesus only.</b></div><div><br></div><div>Many sermons and personal readings of this event tend to suggest that Peter was enjoying himself. &nbsp;That he&nbsp;suggested building the three shelters because he ‘liked’ being there and wanted to remain there. &nbsp;This is a mistake.</div><div><br></div><div>A more careful reading reveals that Peter, James, and John were <i>“exceedingly afraid”. &nbsp;</i>Their teacher whom they had believed was just a man, (a holy man for certain, even the Chosen One, the Christ, the one to deliver Israel from the Romans,&nbsp;but still just&nbsp;a humble man,&nbsp;who taught them the truths of the Kingdom of God, and through whom God worked miraculous signers and wonders),&nbsp;now He was&nbsp;shining with the radiance of the sun, from not just his clothes, but his very face was shining with such&nbsp;brilliance&nbsp;He&nbsp;could not be long&nbsp;stared at.</div><div><br></div><div>Not only was their teacher now radiant with glorious divine light, He was no longer even&nbsp;speaking to them, teaching them. &nbsp;Jesus’&nbsp;attention was now directed to two of the most important (they were long dead, but now living and talking with Jesus!)&nbsp;figures of the entire history of the Jewish nation, Moses, (through whom God gave the Law) and Elijah, (perhaps the greatest prophet of Israel). &nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div>The disciples had never before seen either of them, yet somehow they knew who they were! &nbsp;The disciples were experiencing divine recognition,&nbsp;which was&nbsp;coming to them from a source outside of themselves! &nbsp;This also had to be extremely&nbsp;<span>frightening</span><span>. &nbsp;Peter may</span><span>&nbsp;have been wondering to himself</span><span>, ‘How is it that I recognize who these two&nbsp;</span><span>men are who are talking with our teacher!?’ &nbsp;I believe Peter was stupefied. &nbsp;</span></div><div><span><br></span></div><div><span>It was out of&nbsp;this disorienting&nbsp;state of extreme fear that Peter blurted out ‘his plan, build booths.’</span></div><div><span><br></span></div><div><span>Booths were built and used as temporary dwelling places by the Israelites&nbsp;who had&nbsp;followed&nbsp;Moses out of slavery in Egypt. &nbsp;Is it possible that Peter thought they were not going to live very&nbsp;long on the high mountain, but were also in exodus toward heaven itself,&nbsp;out of the world altogether? &nbsp;Maybe. &nbsp;We do not know, but certainly we do know Peter spoke in ignorance, not really knowing what to say, (probably desiring his Master to pay him a little attention too, and ease his fear.)</span></div><div><span><br></span></div><div><span>Then, their fears could only have increased when they were surrounded, <i>“overshadowed” </i>by a cloud from which the very voice of the Father spoke directly to them saying, <i>“This is my beloved Son, listen to him.” &nbsp;</i>&nbsp;</span></div><div><span><br></span></div><div><span>What a sermon, seven perfect&nbsp;Words! &nbsp;“Know truly that this humble man, <u>is My own</u>&nbsp;‘beloved’&nbsp;Son!” &nbsp;Jesus is both true God and true man, fully God and fully man. &nbsp;This lesson the Father clearly taught to the disciple from the cloud on the Mount of Transfiguration. &nbsp;Until then the disciples&nbsp;had only known Jesus as just a holy man, but not God Himself,&nbsp;in flesh daily&nbsp;walking and talking with them! &nbsp;For, to be ‘the Son’ <u>is</u>&nbsp;to be heir of heaven and earth, possessing all the authority of the Father. &nbsp;This tidbit of information remains beyond human understanding. &nbsp;It demands that we must&nbsp;go beyond human reason, to fully know the Truth(s) of God.</span></div><div><span><br></span></div><div><span>Stop talking! <i>“Listen to Him.” &nbsp;</i>We, like Peter, think that our purpose on earth is to ‘be doing’, it is not.</span></div><div><span>Our chief task on earth is to ‘listen’ for it is in hearing the Word of Christ, that we are cleansed, given newness of life, and indwelt by the living God. &nbsp;Through the Church,&nbsp;Jesus, who is God,&nbsp;is further&nbsp;robed in flesh, our own.&nbsp;</span></div><div><br></div><div>Jesus said, <i>“It is the Spirit that gives life, the flesh is of no avail, the <u>Words</u>&nbsp;that&nbsp;I have spoken to you <u>are</u>&nbsp;Spirit and Life.” &nbsp;</i>(John 6;63)<u></u></div><div><br></div><div>Prayer: &nbsp;O Most Merciful Heavenly&nbsp;Father, deliver us from our ‘own plans’, thoughts, ideas, confusion and fear,&nbsp;and bless us to listen and&nbsp;be indwelt by Your most holy plan, to make us one with You through Christ, by the Holy Spirit, and&nbsp;to live in the Mind of Christ, servants of Your perfect, holy will, not our own. &nbsp;In Jesus we pray, Amen.</div><div><br></div><div>Love,</div><div>Dad/Baba/Eric</div><div>Grandpa Pickle Pastor</div><div>“A chapter a day, every day, progressively, be transformed, ‘soak’ in the living Word. &nbsp;God’s Word is our habitation, and we are His.”</div><div><br><div><a href="https://mail.onelink.me/107872968?pid=nativeplacement&amp;c=Global_Acquisition_YMktg_315_Internal_EmailSignature&amp;af_sub1=Acquisition&amp;af_sub2=Global_YMktg&amp;af_sub3=&amp;af_sub4=100000604&amp;af_sub5=EmailSignature__Static_" rel="nofollow" target="_blank"></a><br></div></div></div></div></div></body></html>
