<html><head></head><body><div><div><div><div><br></div>Mark 9;11-13<div><br></div><div><b>9. &nbsp; And they asked him, “why do the scribes say that first Elijah must come?”</b></div><div><b>10. &nbsp;And he said to them, “Elijah does come first to restore all things; and how it is written of the Son of man, that he should suffer many things and be treated with contempt</b><b>?</b></div><div><b>11. &nbsp;But I tell you that Elijah has come, and they did to him whatever they pleased, as it is written of him.”</b></div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div>This question of the disciples, shows how eagerly the common&nbsp;people of Israel were searching for their Messiah, (also, how diligently the average Jew meditated upon the Scriptures). &nbsp;The title ‘Messiah’ meant to promised coming Savior, who would restore the Kingdom of David to Israel.</div><div><br></div><div>At the time of Jesus, Israel was controlled by the Romans. &nbsp;The king they then had (Herod)&nbsp;was a puppet and tool of the Romans. &nbsp;The people knew that both their government and their religious leaders were corrupt, seeking their own selfish interests, not faithful servants of God.</div><div><br></div><div>Their&nbsp;true Messiah would be sent to them having been anointed by God and a direct descendant of king David.</div><div>But through&nbsp;the Old Testament prophet Malachi, God had also said that <u>before</u>&nbsp;the Messiah came, God would first sent them the prophet Elijah. &nbsp;<i>“Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the great and terrible day of the LORD comes. &nbsp;He will turn the hearts of the fathers to their children and the hearts of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the land with a curse.” &nbsp;</i>(Malachi 4;5&amp;6)</div><div><br></div><div>Matthew 11;11-15, and Luke 1;16&amp;17,&nbsp;&nbsp;teach&nbsp;that John the Baptist came as Elijah, in the spirit and power of Elijah, and that he called all to repent, turning the hearts of fathers to their children,&nbsp;the hearts of children to their fathers, and calling all to turn many in Israel to the Lord their God.</div><div><br></div><div>Is it not wonderful, that we now understand that true repentance is not just feeling sorry for our sins, but it inspires a ‘turning of hearts’ to the will of God our Heavenly Father. &nbsp;True repentance means actual change of behavior which begins from within the heart of God’s people.</div><div><br></div><div>The word ‘repent’ means to be changed, transformed, to be given&nbsp;a new desire within us to do God’s will.</div><div><br></div><div>Because of our weak sinful nature, we do not always do it, but it <u>is in us</u>, because Christ is in us, and His desire is to do the will of the Father. &nbsp;He did it and continues to do it perfectly. &nbsp;As we by faith live <u>in Christ,</u></div><div>believing <u>He i</u><u>s in us,</u>&nbsp;we have the power to deny our selfish selves and walk in newness of life.<i></i></div><div><br></div><div>Prayer: &nbsp;Thank You Father, that Your call to us to repent,&nbsp;brings with it the power to do so. &nbsp;Bless us to so live in Christ that sin no longer have dominion over us. &nbsp;In Jesus we pray, Amen.</div><div><br></div><div>Love,</div><div>Dad/Baba/Eric</div><div>Grandpa Pickle Pastor</div><div>“A chapter a day, every day, progressively, be transformed, ‘soak’ in the living Word. &nbsp;God’s Word is our habitation, and we are His.”</div><div><br><br><div><a href="https://mail.onelink.me/107872968?pid=nativeplacement&amp;c=Global_Acquisition_YMktg_315_Internal_EmailSignature&amp;af_sub1=Acquisition&amp;af_sub2=Global_YMktg&amp;af_sub3=&amp;af_sub4=100000604&amp;af_sub5=EmailSignature__Static_" rel="nofollow" target="_blank"></a><br></div></div></div></div></div></body></html>
