<html><head></head><body><div><div><div><div><br></div>Mark 9;25-29<div><br></div><div><b>25. &nbsp;And When Jesus saw that a crowd came running together, he rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to it, “You dumb and deaf spirit, I command you, come out of him, and never enter him again.”</b></div><div><b>26. &nbsp;And after crying out and convulsing him terribly, it came out, and the boy was like a corpse; so that most of them said, “He is dead.”</b></div><div><b>27. &nbsp;But Jesus took him by the hand and lifted him up, and he arose.</b></div><div><b>28. &nbsp;And when he had entered the house, his disciples asked him privately, “Why could we not cast it out?”</b></div><div><b>29. &nbsp;And he said to them, “This kind cannot be driven out by anything but prayer and fasting.”</b></div><div><br></div><div>(Some ancient manuscripts do not include the last words, <i>“and fasting.”</i>&nbsp;)</div><div><br></div><div>Jesus is not saying that anything done by&nbsp;human activity enhances the power of the name of Jesus.</div><div><br></div><div>All our activity, the whole of the living out of our new life <u>in Christ</u>, is just that, done in and through Jesus only. &nbsp;When Jesus promises, <i>“In that day you will ask nothing of me. &nbsp;Truly, truly, I say to you, if you ask anything of the Father, he will give it to you in my name. &nbsp;Hitherto you have asked nothing in my name; ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.” &nbsp;</i>(John 16;23&amp;24)</div><div><br></div><div>He is saying, ‘Do not ask out of yourselves, ask, ‘<u>in Me’</u>, meaning, believe who and whose you are, the Father’s own dear children, who share in the Mind of Christ. &nbsp;In other words, ask as the Bride of Christ who is one with Him. &nbsp;Your whole identity is to be taken from Me and your whole existence is to be lived out in Me.</div><div>No longer think of yourselves as private individuals trying to do good works using my name as some magical incantation. &nbsp;Be <u>in Me,</u>&nbsp;(by faith through prayer<i>.</i>)</div><div><span><br></span></div><div><span>Have you ever considered what it means to begin your prayer by saying with faith&nbsp;from the heart, <i>“<u>In</u>&nbsp;the name</i>&nbsp;<i>of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, Amen”? &nbsp;</i>It means you have left your own selfish and willful&nbsp;identity behind, and are now believing by God’s grace that you <u>are</u>&nbsp;made new, God’s own dear child and brother or sister&nbsp;of Christ.</span></div><div><span><br></span></div><div><span>Consider what Jesus said to Mary Magdalene on Easter morning outside the tomb, <i>“go to my brethren and say to them, I am ascending to my Father <u>and</u>&nbsp;your Father, to my God <u>and</u>&nbsp;your God.” &nbsp;</i>(John 20;17)</span></div><div><span><br></span></div><div><span>Through prayer, offered in faith and in the Mind of Christ&nbsp;as God’s own born-anew&nbsp;children, the very will of God the Father becomes our new will and through this union, God works His miracles, <i>“And these signs will accompany those who believe: <u>in my name</u>&nbsp;they will cast put demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up serpents, and if they drink any deadly thing, it will not hurt them, they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will recover.” &nbsp;</i>(Mark 16;17&amp;18)</span></div><div><span><br></span></div><div><span>Proper, orthodox (orthodox means ‘right-worship’)&nbsp;prayer is offered by those who belong entirely to the Father and His will. &nbsp;</span></div><div><span><br></span></div><div><span>Jesus is perfectly One with the Father, therefore He is able to command the demon and it obeys.&nbsp;&nbsp;The disciples were yet to understand and believe this, but following the resurrection and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on Pentecost, the&nbsp;Apostles&nbsp;went forth, fully yielded to the will of the Father, (either by life or by death)&nbsp;able to command demons as the Holy Spirit led them.</span></div><div><span><br></span></div><div>Prayer: &nbsp;O Most Merciful Father, grant that our faith embrace our true oneness with each other and with You, through Christ, by the Holy Spirit and the Word. &nbsp;Bless us to be joined with Christ in&nbsp;the “Abba! Father!
