<html><head></head><body><div><div><div><div><br></div>Mark 10;46-48<div><br></div><div><b>46. &nbsp;And they came to Jericho; and he was leaving Jericho with his disciples and a great multitude, Bartimaeus, a blind bigger, the son of Timaeus, was sitting by the roadside.</b></div><div><b>47. &nbsp;And when he heard that&nbsp;it w&nbsp;as Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out, and say, “Jesus, son of David, have mercy on me!“<br>48. &nbsp;And many rebuked him, telling him to be silent; but he cried out all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!“</b></div><div><b><br></b></div><div>King Herod was not a descendant of David, of the tribe of Judah, a descendant&nbsp;of Jacob. &nbsp;Herod was an Edomite, a descendant of Esau, the brother of Jacob, (Jacob bought from Esau the<span>&nbsp;birthright from Esau for a bowl of soup. &nbsp;Later he&nbsp;deceived&nbsp;his father Isaac, by pretending to be Esau, and stole the blessing blind Isaac intended to give to Esau.)</span></div><div><span><br></span></div><div><span>Depending upon whether you are reading Arab/Muslim ancestral&nbsp;research, or common western historical accounts, Herod was either&nbsp;a person of virtue or a villain. &nbsp;To the Muslims today and especially the Palestinians, Herod is considered a rightful king, to be honored. &nbsp;To Jews and Christians, he was a usurper, a political puppet, and an illegitimate, evil traitor who may have a historical connection to the Maccabeans, but they were not of the tribe of Judah. &nbsp;They had&nbsp;an ancestral connection to the tribe of Levi.</span></div><div><span><br></span></div><div><span>Trying to unravel the family trees of those who call themselves ‘Palestinians’ is confusing at best.</span></div><div><span>To be a descendant of Esau is to be closely related to the Jews of today, but it is not a claim for the Promise which was&nbsp;given by God to&nbsp;the tribe of Judah, and set forth further to&nbsp;king David in 2 Samuel 7;12-17, namly,&nbsp;</span><span>that a male offspring from David’s body would one day&nbsp;be established as King Eternal, whose throne would stand forever.</span></div><div><span><br></span></div><div><span>This can be none other than Jesus of Nazareth, whom blind Bartimaeus rightly called, <i>“Son of David.”</i></span></div><div><span><i><br></i></span></div><div><span>Although he was blind, he saw the truth of who Jesus was, ‘the Messiah, the promised coming King of Israel’. &nbsp;</span></div><div><span><br></span></div><div><span>Calling Jesus, “Son of David” was an act of treason toward Herod and an act of rebellion against the Romans at the same time. &nbsp;</span></div><div><span><br></span></div><div><span>Is it not wonderful that a blind beggar was given the place of John the Baptist’s in preparing the way of Jesus, announcing&nbsp;the coming of the Lord as he was leaving Jericho on His way to die for us&nbsp;in Jerusalem.</span></div><div><span><br></span></div><div><span>God sees greatness in,&nbsp;and bestows favor upon, those who proclaim the rightful title of&nbsp;Jesus. &nbsp;</span></div><div><span>His Kingdom’s rule is not in Jerusalem, but in our hearts. &nbsp;We are the blind beggars of God who have been given true&nbsp;sight, and who now healed, follow Jesus just as Bartimaeus did.</span></div><div><span><br></span></div><div><span>Prayer: &nbsp;Merciful Father we praise you that the rule of Christ in us is life giving joy and eternal fruitfulness. &nbsp;Bless us to proclaim to this blind world, who Jesus is, our rightful, glorious,&nbsp;eternal King. &nbsp;In Jesus we pray, Amen.</span></div><div><span><br></span></div><div><span>Love,</span></div><div><span>Dad/Baba/Eric</span></div><div><span>Grandpa Pickle Pastor</span></div><div><span>“A chapter a day, every day, progressively, be transformed, ‘soak’ in the living Word. &nbsp;God’s Word is our habitation, and we are His.”</span></div><div><br><div><a href="https://mail.onelink.me/107872968?pid=nativeplacement&amp;c=Global_Acquisition_YMktg_315_Internal_EmailSignature&amp;af_sub1=Acquisition&amp;af_sub2=Global_YMktg&amp;af_sub3=&amp;af_sub4=100000604&amp;af_sub5=EmailSignature__Static_" rel="nofollow" target="_blank"></a><br></div></div></div></div></div></body></html>
