And as he was walking in the temple, the chief priest and the scribes, and the elders came to him,</b></div><div><b>28. &nbsp;And they said to him, “By what authority are you doing these things, or who gave you this authority to do them?“</b></div><div><b>29. &nbsp;Jesus said to them, “I will ask you a question; answer me, and I will tell you by what authority I do these things.</b></div><div><b><br></b></div><div><b><br></b></div><div>The concept of authority as set forth in scripture&nbsp;is expressed as ‘head-ship.’ &nbsp;Meaning, ‘that which rightly&nbsp;directs, guides, and controls us.’</div><div><br></div><div>When the chief&nbsp;priests and scribes and elders approached and questioned&nbsp;Jesus in the temple saying, <i>(“By what authority are you doing these things?”)</i>&nbsp;they were asking&nbsp;the very question upon which all else depends. &nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div>Jesus’ cleansing of the temple, calling it <i>“My house” </i>was an assertion of His own ultimate, and&nbsp;highest Authority, as God incarnate. &nbsp;But, the chief priests, scribes, and elders saw and believed that Jesus was only just another man, not true God in the flesh.</div><div><br></div><div>The chief priest and all who were attached to, and&nbsp;part of, the Aaronic priesthood, belonged to a lesser authority, (that of the law of God given through the man&nbsp;Moses). &nbsp;Such a priesthood was indeed of great authority, but not the highest. &nbsp;Even&nbsp;as we have lower courts and then we have the Supreme Court.</div><div><br></div><div>&nbsp;Christ is not ‘under’&nbsp;the authority of the&nbsp;Aaronic priesthood, He is ‘over’ it&nbsp;as God the LORD, from whom all earthly authority is derived. &nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div>Paul writes, <i>“But I want you to understand that the head of every man is Christ, the head of a woman is her husband, and the head of Christ is God.” &nbsp;</i>(1 Corinthians 11;3)</div><div><br></div><div>The actions of Jesus in cleansing the temple were those of the Supreme Authority, God Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth and all that is in them. &nbsp;The stars and the heavens which hold them,&nbsp;all hold to their places in the universe, the comets and asteroids travel their special paths, all under His authority, guidance, and direction. Every sub-atomic particle moves in obedience to the Authority of God. &nbsp;There is no Authority, except from God. &nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div>&nbsp;By His creative work&nbsp;alone, God is&nbsp;the source of all Authority. &nbsp;Jesus <u>is God</u>&nbsp;in the flesh. &nbsp;Jesus is the&nbsp;very manifestation of God to us. &nbsp;He&nbsp;comes to us robed in flesh, so that we may be robed in God, made one with Him, just as in marriage, the two become One.</div><div><br></div><div>Therefore, Jesus prays before His crucifixion saying, <i>“Sanctify, </i>(make holy as God is holy) <i>them </i>(all Believers) <i>in the truth; Thy Word is Truth. &nbsp;As Thou didst send Me into the world, So I have sent them into the world. &nbsp;And for their sake I consecrate myself, that they also may be consecrated in Truth. &nbsp;I do not pray for these only, but also, for those who believe in me through their word, t<u>hat they may all be One; even as Thou, Father, art in me, and I in Thee, That they also may be in us,</u>&nbsp;so that the world may believe that Thou has sent me.
