Mark 12;38-40
 
38. &nbsp;And in his teaching, he said, “Beware of the scribes, who like to go about in long robes, and to have salutations in the marketplaces&nbsp;
39. &nbsp;and the best seats in the synagogues and the places of honor at feasts,
40. &nbsp;who devour widows’ houses and for a pretense make long prayers. &nbsp;They will receive the greater condemnation.”
 
The desire for recognition, attention, and&nbsp;honor, are symptoms of the satanic poison still infecting our old nature….the desire to be in the place of God.
 
The wearing of expensive clothing and the making of long prayers, even sitting in the best seats, are all symptomatic of how&nbsp;our sin nature, (still&nbsp;in league&nbsp;with the devil,&nbsp;the&nbsp;lusting flesh) continues to&nbsp;seek&nbsp;the very throne of God, just as did&nbsp;Lucifer, who is&nbsp;called ‘Day Star’.&nbsp;(Isaiah 14;12-19)
 
It is hard to understand the totality and depth of evil’s corruption. &nbsp;The devil, the father of lies,&nbsp;was a murderer from the beginning. (John 8;44) &nbsp;There is utterly no compassion in him. &nbsp;He delights to destroy.
He has no shame, and no conscience. &nbsp;Therefore the most helpless and weak among us are his prey.
 
As servants of God, we are commanded to look after the weak, especially widows and orphans. &nbsp;
“Religion which is pure and undefined before God and the Father is this: &nbsp;to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.” &nbsp;(James 1;27)
 
 
 
Prayer: &nbsp;O Most Merciful Father in heaven, to You alone, belongs all honor, glory, and praise. &nbsp;Bless us to desire no other title than, ‘Forgiven child of God.’ &nbsp; In that title we humbly and justly&nbsp;embrace all&nbsp;our shame, and by Your mercy to us in Christ,&nbsp;partake also&nbsp;of Your glory. &nbsp;Teach our hearts again, that true greatness and glory are revealed in sacrificially obeying Your will dear Father, and sacrificially serving our neighbor.&nbsp; In Jesus we pray, Amen.
