Could you not watch one hour?</b></div><div><b>38. &nbsp;Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation; the spirit indeed is willing, but the flash is weak.”</b></div><div><b>39. &nbsp;And again he went away and prayed, saying&nbsp;the same words.</b></div><div><b>40. &nbsp;And again he came and found them sleeping, for their eyes were very heavy; and they did not know what to answer him.</b></div><div><b>41. &nbsp;And he came the third time, and said to them, “Are you still sleeping and taking your rest? It is enough; the hour has come; the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.</b></div><div><b>42. &nbsp;Rise, let us be going; see, my betrayer is at hand.”</b></div><div><b><br></b></div><div>Jesus’ <i>“Abba, Father” </i>prayer of submission to the will of the Father, reveals to us&nbsp;the <i>“spirit of sonship.” </i>(Romans 8;15)<i>&nbsp;</i></div><div><i><br></i></div><div><i>To be “children of God” </i>(John 1;12) means more than being a forgiven Believer, it means that we by faith and the Holy Spirit,&nbsp;have&nbsp;the&nbsp;desire to do the Father’s will above our own. &nbsp;This is&nbsp;<i>“the Mind of Christ” </i>(which we received in our baptism into Christ). &nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div>Jesus’ doing the Father’s will was accomplished without human support. &nbsp;His atoning sacrifice begins here in the Garden of Gethsemane. &nbsp;His prayer itself is sacrificial. &nbsp;Jesus is denying himself. &nbsp;This is the love of God at work in the heart of Christ AND which has been given, poured into our own hearts. &nbsp;(Romans 5;5)</div><div><br></div><div>Notice, there is no anger from Jesus, only sorrow over the failure&nbsp;of the disciples to <i>“watch”. &nbsp;</i>When Jesus says, <i>“It is enough”</i>&nbsp;He not only&nbsp;means the disciples have rested long enough,&nbsp;He is also indicating that this additional sorrow inflicted upon Jesus is sufficient for the moment, but they are not complete. &nbsp;Soon, Peter will deny Jesus three times. &nbsp;This too, is another blow&nbsp;to his soul. &nbsp;It is like a lash, another&nbsp;shock and sorrow further&nbsp;wounding&nbsp;his already&nbsp;suffering heart. &nbsp;<span>The sufferings of Jesus are not inflicted upon Him only by His enemies, His sufferings come also from His friends. &nbsp;</span></div><div><span><br></span></div><div><span>Our daily sins are also inflicted upon Jesus on the cross. &nbsp;<i>“But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquity; upon him was the chastisement that made us whole, and with his stripes, we are healed. All we like sheep, have gone astray; we have turned everyone to his own way; and the LORD&nbsp;has laid on him the iniquity of us </i><u>all</u><i>.” &nbsp;</i>(Isaiah 53;5&amp;6). THE INIQUITY OF US <u>ALL!</u></span></div><div><span><br></span></div><div><span>When Jesus says, <i>“Rise, let us be going” </i>he is not simply asking for the disciples to follow and observe what is yet to happen. &nbsp;He is inviting us all to <i>“share in His sufferings.” </i>(Romans 8;17).
