<html><head></head><body><div><div><div><div><br></div>Mark 15;1-5<div><br></div><div><b>1. &nbsp;And as soon as it was morning, the chief priests, with the elders and the scribes, and the whole council held a consultation; and they bound Jesus and lead him away and delivered him to Pilate.</b></div><div><b>2. &nbsp;And Pilate&nbsp;asked him, “Are you the king of the Jews?” And he answered him, “You have said so.”</b></div><div><b>3. &nbsp;And the chief priests accused him of many things.</b></div><div><b>4. &nbsp;And Pilate&nbsp;again asked him, “Have you no answer to make? See how many charges they bring against you.”</b></div><div><b>5. &nbsp;But Jesus made no further answer, so that Pilate&nbsp;wondered.</b></div><div><br></div><div>The Jews were a conquered&nbsp;people, their lands had been occupied by the Romans. &nbsp;Only Roman law could execute capital punishment. &nbsp;Therefore, the chief priests, elders, scribes, and the council brought Jesus to Pilate the Roman&nbsp;governor of the region of Judea. &nbsp;Only Pilate could order an execution.</div><div><br></div><div>Rather than fear Pilate, Jesus loved him, and desired Pilate to know the truth, repent, and believe.</div><div>The interactions between Pilate and Jesus are fascinating to consider. &nbsp;Pilate is trying to give Justice to&nbsp;Jesus (and the Jews accusing Him). &nbsp;Pilate knows the Jews are corrupt and he&nbsp;has little respect for them. &nbsp;True justice comes from God only. &nbsp;Jesus is trying to make Pilate ‘just’ before God. &nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div>The Latin word for justice is, <i>‘justitia,’</i>&nbsp; the original meaning was ‘to unite, or to tie together.’ &nbsp;We use this Latin word to describe the sinner/Saint condition of the Believer on earth; <i>‘simul justus et piccator,’ </i>meaning, ‘At the same time righteous and a sinner’.</div><div><br></div><div>As forgiven sinners who in Christ are&nbsp;cleansed from our sin, we are able to be united with our Holy LORD.</div><div>To be ‘righteous’ means to be ‘right’ before God. &nbsp;This does not simply mean ‘free from sin,’ it means in our union with Christ&nbsp;we are&nbsp;completely fulfilling all of the Law of God. &nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div><i>“But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law, although the law and the prophets&nbsp;bear witness to it, the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. &nbsp;For there is no distinction; since all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, they are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus, whom God put forward as an expiation by his blood, to be received by faith. This was to show God‘s righteousness, because in his divine forbearance, he had passed over former sins; it was to prove at the present time that he himself is righteous, and that he justifies him who has faith in Jesus.” &nbsp;</i>(Romans 3;21-26)</div><div><br></div><div>When Pilate asked Jesus,<i>”Are you the king of the Jews?” &nbsp;</i>Why does Jesus reply&nbsp;by saying, <i>“You have said so.”?</i></div><div><i><br></i></div><div>Jesus is asking&nbsp;Pilate to consider the meaning and importance&nbsp;of his own words. &nbsp;Such a personal exhortation from Jesus, reveals that&nbsp;Jesus desires for Pilate to personally believe what has just come forth from his own mouth. &nbsp;Jesus’ reply and continued silence afterward&nbsp;caused Pilate to begin to <i>“wonder”</i>&nbsp;and to consider&nbsp;the possibility that the charge against Jesus was in fact true; that Jesus was the true King of the Jews. (Pilate knew that Herod was a ‘pretender king’. &nbsp;He was&nbsp;only king&nbsp;by the power of Rome, not by descent from David, or consent of the people.)</div><div><br></div><div>Even as He is being condemned to die, Jesus is still yearning for Pilate and the whole&nbsp;world, to know Him not only as King of the Jews, but as the Son of God, our Savior and Lord.</div><div><br></div><div>Jesus refused to answer the charges against Him as an utter rejection of their own injustice.</div><div><br></div><div>Prayer: &nbsp;Most Merciful Heavenly Father, we are troubled and&nbsp;condemned by all our guilt and sin. &nbsp;We are deserving of Your eternal condemnation and&nbsp;wrath, yet You in mercy, have displayed you great transforming&nbsp;love for sinners, in the sacrificial atoning&nbsp;death of Jesus. &nbsp;By the gift of faith in Jesus, you have reckoned us as righteous.
