<html><head></head><body><div><div><div>Mark 15;33&amp;34<div><br></div><div><b>33. &nbsp;And when the sixth hour had come, there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour.</b></div><div><b>34. &nbsp;And at the ninth&nbsp;&nbsp;hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, “Elo-i, Elo-i, lama sa Bach-Thani?” which means, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?”</b></div><div><b><br></b></div><div>Jesus had appeared to Peter, James, and John on the Mount of Transfiguration in radiant splendor, His face shining like&nbsp;the sun. &nbsp;Yet, in these three hours, (from noon to 3pm)&nbsp;the sun itself refused to shine. &nbsp;The world was plunged into the very darkness of Hell, where God and his mercy do not shine.</div><div><br></div><div>What can we make of this? &nbsp;Certainly, the Father had withdrawn Himself,&nbsp;all perceptible presence and comfort from Jesus were gone. &nbsp;No external comfort of any sort to encourage Jesus was there. &nbsp;He was left utterly alone, this is what Hell is: to be forsaken by God.</div><div><br></div><div>These moment of suffering are truly mysterious. &nbsp;They are a window into Christ’s own tormented soul.</div><div>As true man and true God, Jesus truly&nbsp;experienced all the eternal,&nbsp;emotional, psychological, spiritual, physical pains of the wrath of God. &nbsp;It was crushing Him with despair, hopelessness flooded into His soul, sorrows, and unimaginable sufferings overwhelmed Him, evil beyond understanding possessed Him. &nbsp;Literally, all the iniquities of the whole human race throughout all human history,&nbsp;were being carried now in Jesus, body, soul, and spirit. &nbsp;<i>“For our sake,&nbsp;</i><i>He made Him to be sin who knew no sin, </i><u>so that we might become the righteousness of God.”</u>&nbsp; (2 Corinthians 5;21)</div><div><br></div><div>Some theologians contend that Jesus’s own bloodied and beaten form&nbsp;was actually&nbsp;changing shapes on the cross, reflecting all the&nbsp;terrible appearances of all the wickedness of this world one after another, which were being&nbsp;inflicted upon Him.
