<html><head></head><body><div><div><div><div><br></div>Romans 1;7<div><br></div><div><b>7. &nbsp;To all God’s beloved in Rome, who are called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God out Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.</b></div><div><b><br></b></div><div>What does it mean to be <i>“called to be saints”?</i></div><div><i><br></i></div><div>The word ‘saint’ is derived from the Latin word ‘<i>Sanctus’, </i>which means to be ‘holy’ and ‘set apart’.&nbsp;</div><div>On the turban of the Jewish high priest there was an inscribed golden plate which said, “<i>H</i><i>oly to the Lord”.</i></div><div>(Exodus 28;36)</div><div><br></div><div>Being <i>“holy” </i>&nbsp;is to be&nbsp;devoted&nbsp;to one person, purpose, or thing above all others<span>. &nbsp;Just as God Himself is devoted to saving us. &nbsp;Therefore, God is holy. &nbsp;</span></div><div><span><br></span></div><div>Marriage is called ‘holy matrimony.’ &nbsp;The word ‘matrimony’ &nbsp;contains the French words, ‘mater’ meaning ‘mother’,&nbsp;also the term ‘monium’, meaning ‘obligation’. &nbsp;It signifies the idea of a fruitful union, formed when a husband and wife are joined to each other for ‘life’, (not just as <span>a</span>&nbsp;period of time, but also for bringing forth new life),&nbsp;fruitfulness.</div><div><span><br></span></div><div><span>Paul directs us to the concept of marriage as being an earthly reflection of the divine reality of Christ’s sacrificial&nbsp;love for His Bride the Church, and the Churches devoted&nbsp;faithfulness to her Bridegroom Jesus.</span></div><div><span><br></span></div><div><span>Proverbs 3;3&amp;4 teach us, <i>“Let not loyalty&nbsp;and faithfulness forsake you; bind them about your neck, write them upon your heart. &nbsp;So will you find favor and good repute in the sight of God and man.” &nbsp;</i></span></div><div><span><i><br></i></span></div><div><span>Jesus was devoted to doing the will of the Father, this made Him Holy, sanctified, and&nbsp;consecrated.</span></div><div>To be a saint of God is to belong to God, not just legally but from the heart. &nbsp;This is also a part of understanding what it means to have the ‘Mind of Christ’, it means to have the heart, will, and spirit of Christ dwelling within us, inspiring devoted love to God.</div><div><br></div><div>When we pray in the Offertory, <i>“Create in me a clean heart O God, and put&nbsp;a new and&nbsp;right spirit within me.”</i><u></u></div><div>(Psalm 51;10). 7.  To all God’s beloved in Rome, who are called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God out Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
What does it mean to be “called to be saints”?
The word ‘saint’ is derived from the Latin word ‘Sanctus’, which means to be ‘holy’ and ‘set apart’. On the turban of the Jewish high priest there was an inscribed golden plate which said, “Holy to the Lord”.(Exodus 28;36)
Being “holy”  is to be devoted to one person, purpose, or thing above all others.  Just as God Himself is devoted to saving us.  Therefore, God is holy.
