<html><head></head><body><div><div><div><div><br></div>Romans 3;19&amp;20<div><br></div><div><b>19. &nbsp;Now we know that whatever the law says it speaks to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be stopped, and the whole world may be held accountable to God.</b></div><div><b>20. &nbsp;For no human being will be justified in his sight by works of the law, since through the law comes knowledge of sin.</b></div><div><br></div><div>The Law of God, both the natural law which even unbelievers have some knowledge of, as well as the revealed Law of God, given through Moses, are holy, beautiful, perfect,&nbsp;and desirable. &nbsp;The Law, both natural and revealed, testifies to true righteousness and to the holy righteousness of God. &nbsp;</div><div>&nbsp; &nbsp;</div><div><i>“The law of the LORD is perfect, reviving the soul; the testimony of the LORD is sure making wise the simple;</i></div><div><i>the precepts of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the LORD is pure enlightening the eyes;</i></div><div><i>the fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever; the ordinances of the LORD are true, and righteous all together.</i></div><div><i>More to be desired are they than gold, even much fine gold; sweeter also than honey and the drippings of the honeycomb.” &nbsp;</i><span>(Psalm 19;7-10)</span></div><div><br></div><div><u>If</u>&nbsp;we could keep the Law of God, we would by our own efforts be as holy as God, but we do not keep the Law. &nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div>The <u>only One</u>&nbsp;who has&nbsp;ever kept the Law perfectly, who fulfilled all its just demands, is Jesus. &nbsp;Jesus is the sinless Son of God. &nbsp;<i>“For we have not a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been&nbsp;tempted&nbsp;as we are, yet&nbsp;without sinning.” &nbsp;</i>(Hebrews 4;15)</div><div><br></div><div>The Law of God is not evil, it is beautiful. &nbsp;But we who do not keep the Law stand condemned before God.</div><div>When in our reading today it says, <i>“so that every mouth may be stopped” </i>it means we have no defense, no excuse. &nbsp;According to the Law, <i>“The soul that sins shall die.” </i>(Ezekiel 18;20) &nbsp;Death, both physical and eternal is the consequence of sin.<i>&nbsp; “The wages of sin is death.” &nbsp;</i>(Romans 6;23)<b></b></div><div><i>“For whoever keeps the whole law but fails in one point has become guilty of all of it.” &nbsp;</i>(James 2;10)</div><div><br></div><div>The Law of God&nbsp;is given, not to save us by our doing the&nbsp;works of the law, &nbsp;it is given to break us. &nbsp;To lead us to giving up on ourselves altogether. &nbsp;The law show us what true holiness is, and it shows us that we are not holy. &nbsp;Like the priest in the movie “Rudy” said, ‘There is a God, and I’m not Him.”</div><div><br></div><div>Prayer: &nbsp;Merciful Father, we praise You for giving us your very own holy righteousness, through our baptism <u>into</u>&nbsp;Christ. &nbsp;He loved and still loves Your most holy Law.
