<html><head></head><body><div><div><div><div><br></div>Romans 4;13&amp;14<div><br></div><div><b>13. &nbsp;The promise to Abraham and his descendants, that they should inherit the world, did not come through the law but through the righteousness of faith.</b></div><div><b>14. &nbsp;If it is the adherents of the law who are to be the heirs, faith in null and the promise is void.</b></div><div><br></div><div>The early infant Gentile&nbsp;Church in Rome (as well as throughout the Roman world), struggled to determine whether&nbsp;their ‘obedience of faith’ meant that they should also be circumcised like the Jews (who were under the law of Moses and had to be&nbsp;circumcised as well as&nbsp;their male sons on the eighth day). &nbsp;(see, Leviticus 12;3)</div><div><br></div><div>If that were true, then the&nbsp;inheritance&nbsp;would be founded upon&nbsp;humanly powered&nbsp;works of the law. &nbsp;&nbsp;It was not.&nbsp;&nbsp;</div><div>The Promise of God came to Abram <u>before</u>&nbsp;he by grace,&nbsp;did the work of&nbsp;circumcision. &nbsp;It (the Promise)&nbsp;produced faith and obedience in Abram.</div><div>The Promise of God was founded upon God himself and His love. &nbsp; It was the love of God that moved God to give Abram the Promise. &nbsp;Faith came to Abram through the Word of the Promise. &nbsp;It came&nbsp;as God’s gift to Abram and us all. &nbsp;(see, Romans 10;17) &nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div>The Promise of God brings us faith. &nbsp;If we choose to disbelieve, that is the evil work of our rebellious souls, rejecting the gift of faith God gives us. &nbsp;If we believe, that is the work of God in us, the living Word&nbsp;itself,&nbsp;at work in us all to His glory, not our own.</div><div><br></div><div>Man cannot choose to believe, we are spiritually dead, we can only choose to reject the gift of God and&nbsp;disbelieve. &nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div>The Word of promise makes us alive spiritually&nbsp;(see, Ephesians 2;1). &nbsp;To disbelieve is to choose to return into death.</div><div><br></div><div>Faith is the gift of God, by it we live. &nbsp;The gift of faith is the work of God within us, (Philippians 2;13)&nbsp;it is not a work of the flesh or of the&nbsp;law. 13.  The promise to Abraham and his descendants, that they should inherit the world, did not come through the law but through the righteousness of faith.14.  If it is the adherents of the law who are to be the heirs, faith in null and the promise is void.

If that were true, then the inheritance would be founded upon humanly powered works of the law.   It was not.  The Promise of God came to Abram before he by grace, did the work of circumcision.  It (the Promise) produced faith and obedience in Abram.The Promise of God was founded upon God himself and His love.   It was the love of God that moved God to give Abram the Promise.  Faith came to Abram through the Word of the Promise.  It came as God’s gift to Abram and us all.  (see, Romans 10;17)  
The Promise of God brings us faith.  If we choose to disbelieve, that is the evil work of our rebellious souls, rejecting the gift of faith God gives us.  If we believe, that is the work of God in us, the living Word itself, at work in us all to His glory, not our own.
Man cannot choose to believe, we are spiritually dead, we can only choose to reject the gift of God and disbelieve.  
The Word of promise makes us alive spiritually (see, Ephesians 2;1).  To disbelieve is to choose to return into death.

Prayer:  Merciful Father, bless us who are in Christ and in whom Christ dwells, to understand the “world” we inherit is yet still unseen by carnal eyes.  Yet, for those who hold fast the Word of Promise, our faith-vision is already seeing “dimly, as through a glass.”   (1 Corinthians 13;12)   In Jesus we pray, Amen.
