<html><head></head><body><div><div><div><div><br></div>Romans 8;2<div><br></div><div><b>2. &nbsp;For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set&nbsp;me free from the law of sin and death.</b></div><div><b><br></b></div><div>‘Two different&nbsp;Laws from God’</div><div><br></div><div>Here, Paul in praise to God,&nbsp;sets forth the truth that there is another, different, greater, more powerful&nbsp;law from God! &nbsp; It is&nbsp;<u>not</u>&nbsp;the “<i>law of sin and death.”</i></div><div><br></div><div>&nbsp;Remember, the law of, “<i>sin and death’”&nbsp;</i>is what Paul in Romans 7 said&nbsp;was greater than,&nbsp;(and was&nbsp;overpowering)&nbsp;his own <i>(‘born anew’)&nbsp;</i>will&nbsp;and desire to obey the will of the Father. &nbsp;He called himself a <i>‘wretched man’</i>&nbsp;(v.24)&nbsp;because he, as a baptized Believer,&nbsp;wanted&nbsp;to serve God, but was still a prisoner, held <i>‘captive’</i>&nbsp;by the <i>‘law of sin” </i>(v.23) which still <i>“dwells in my members.” </i>(V.23)<i></i></div><div><br></div><div>This same <i>“law of sin” </i>still dwells in our members also. &nbsp;We baptized Believers,&nbsp;(who want to obey the will of the Father), continually fail as well. &nbsp;We, with Paul are also <i>“wretched men.” &nbsp; &nbsp;</i>But, praise God, the Father has set forth a new law, greater than the <i>‘law of sin,&nbsp; dwelling in our members” </i>(our flesh).</div><div><i><br></i></div><div><span>The new, greater law is called, <i>“The Law of the Spirit of Life </i><u>in Christ Jesus”</u>.</span></div><div><i><br></i></div><div><span>Please note: &nbsp;Paul <u>does not say,</u>&nbsp;<i>‘</i>the law of the spirit of life ‘<u>will</u>&nbsp;</span><i>set me free,’. &nbsp;</i><span>He says, <i>“the Law of the Spirit of Life <u>has</u>&nbsp;set me free.”<u></u></i></span></div><div><span><i><br></i></span></div><div><span>Paul rejoices that he no longer must serve and obey the <i>“law of sin.”</i>&nbsp; He <i>“has been set free” </i>!!! &nbsp;He has found a new power greater than the power of&nbsp;his own good will and desires.</span></div><div><span><br></span></div><div><span>Paul is no longer a wretched man. &nbsp;He is no longer a captive. &nbsp;<i>“The Law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus”</i></span></div><div><span>has set him and us free.</span></div><div><span><br></span></div><div><span>What exactly is, <i>“the Law of the Spirit of Life <u>in Christ Jesus.”</u>&nbsp;? &nbsp;</i></span></div><div><span><i><br></i></span></div><div><span>What does this mean? &nbsp; It means that we live in our baptismal death to all&nbsp;sin <u>and self</u>. &nbsp;This means we, with Christ,&nbsp;die with Christ to ‘self.’ &nbsp; It means we totally and completely&nbsp;give up all our own desires, both evil AND those we consider to be good. &nbsp;We surrender everything to the will of the Father. &nbsp;<u>In Christ</u>&nbsp;we have no will but to do the Father’s will, even if that means giving up everything which&nbsp;we love and want&nbsp;to keep for ourselves.</span></div><div><span><br></span></div><div>To <i>“deny yourself” </i>(Luke 9;23-25 and Matthew 16;24-26) means to give up not just your sin, but also to give up&nbsp;on <u>all</u>&nbsp;your <u>own</u>&nbsp;hopes and dreams. &nbsp; God’s will for you is better by far than your own best intentions and desires. &nbsp;To die with Jesus to <i>‘self’</i>&nbsp;means <span>your</span>&nbsp;<u>whole self, not just the bad parts of you.</u>&nbsp;&nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div>So long as you cling to any part of your<i>’self’ </i>(your own hopes, dreams, and desires)&nbsp;you are not fully dead with Christ in baptism. &nbsp;You cannot be a true slave of righteousness. &nbsp;Baptism is for full complete death, not partial death. &nbsp; (Remember, Paul said, <i>“There is <u>nothing good</u>&nbsp;that dwells in me, that is, in my flesh.” &nbsp; </i>(Romans 7;18). Romans 8;2
2.  For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set me free from the law of sin and death.
‘Two different Laws from God’
Here, Paul in praise to God, sets forth the truth that there is another, different, greater, more powerful law from God!   It is not the “law of sin and death.”
 Remember, the law of, “sin and death’” is what Paul in Romans 7 said was greater than, (and was overpowering) his own (‘born anew’) will and desire to obey the will of the Father.  He called himself a ‘wretched man’ (v.24) because he, as a baptized Believer, wanted to serve God, but was still a prisoner, held ‘captive’ by the ‘law of sin” (v.23) which still “dwells in my members.” (V.23)
This same “law of sin” still dwells in our members also.  We baptized Believers, (who want to obey the will of the Father), continually fail as well.  We, with Paul are also “wretched men.”    But, praise God, the Father has set forth a new law, greater than the ‘law of sin,  dwelling in our members” (our flesh).
The new, greater law is called, “The Law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus”.
Please note:  Paul does not say, ‘the law of the spirit of life ‘will set me free,’.  He says, “the Law of the Spirit of Life has set me free.”

What exactly is, “the Law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus.” ?
