<html><head></head><body><div><div><div><div><br></div>Romans 8;5&amp;6<div><br></div><div><b>5. &nbsp;For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit.</b></div><div><b>6. &nbsp;To set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace.</b></div><div><b><br></b></div><div>We all remain afflicted with a sinful nature in our flesh. &nbsp;All&nbsp;flesh is condemned to die. &nbsp;(Physical death for the Believer is blessed, it is the final full escape from the sin nature into the glorious&nbsp;presence of God, o<span>ur warfare (<i>“tribulation”</i>)&nbsp;is ended.)</span></div><div><br></div><div>When verse 6 says, <i>“To set the mind on the flesh is death ” </i>(meaning&nbsp;our passions, coveting,&nbsp;lusts, and unholy&nbsp;fears), it is not referring to physical death, but spiritual. &nbsp;Spiritual death to the soul,&nbsp;is separation from God, and with it&nbsp;comes all the inner turmoil and frustration of desires, which when temporarily satisfied, give no peace and no joy. &nbsp;These things become empty with no contentment. &nbsp;Or, if these desires, lusts, and passions go unfulfilled, then&nbsp;the mind set on the flesh is full of anger, wrath, frustration, and malice.</div><div><br></div><div>I also added ‘unholy&nbsp;fears’ as belonging to the flesh and sinful nature, because unholy fears paralyze acts of faith and love. &nbsp;Unholy fears rob us of the joy and peace of our Lord as well. &nbsp;We think unholy fear&nbsp;excuse&nbsp;us from obedience, but it does not. &nbsp;Those who claim unholy fear as the reason for disobedience, are actually revealing that they have set their minds on the flesh, believing or disbelieving that their obedience and fruitfulness is of and&nbsp;from the flesh. &nbsp;(Remember, our good works are not from ourselves but God who dwells in us.).&nbsp;They are separating themselves from Christ, preferring to be alone unto themselves. &nbsp;Unholy fear&nbsp;is the sin of sloth and rebellion, dressed up in pretended weakness. &nbsp; God rightly and justly&nbsp;expects fruitfulness from His children. &nbsp;(see, Matthew 25;18,24-30).&nbsp;The Spirit of God produces fruitfulness, as a branch attached to a vine bears&nbsp;fruit.</div><div><br></div><div>To <i>“Set the mind on the Spirit” </i>&nbsp;is to deny self altogether. &nbsp;It is no different than having the Mind of Christ.</div><div>The mind set on the Spirit is an act of faith wherein we direct our flesh to the Father’s Will.</div><div><br></div><div>It is a mind and heart which obediently&nbsp;trusts and thanks&nbsp;God in all conditions. &nbsp;<i>“ Not that I complain of want; for I have learned, in whatever state I am, to be content. &nbsp;I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound; in any and all circumstances, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and want. &nbsp;I can do all things in him who strengthens me.” &nbsp;</i>(Philippians 4;11-13)</div><div><br></div><div>For we are commanded by the Scriptures to <i>“ rejoice always, pray, constantly, give things in all circumstances; this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” </i>(1 Thessalonians 5;16-18)</div><div><br></div><div>Setting the mind on the Spirit is to remember and trust in all the promises of God. &nbsp;I especially love&nbsp;</div><div>Romans 8;28&amp;29, <i>“We know that in everything God works for good with those who love him, who are called according to his purpose. Romans 8;5&6
