The dead are not even dead to God. 
 Our souls are immortal, they continue after the flesh is dust in the grave.  We are not our bodies.  Our bodies have been given to us as instruments to be ‘played’ in God’s great song of life.  Those who refuse to join with us in the great faith powered hymn of Glory to God, will suffer in eternal sorrow and anguish.  Forever grieving that they refused to use their instruments for this most beautiful divine purpose.  
In our text today though, the phrase, “that He might be Lord both of the dead and of the living” refers especially to Believers who have died with Christ (to sin through baptism) and who have been raised with Christ in newness of life.  It is for us now, our participation in the Divine Nature, before this physical nature ends.
